Reception
Our Curriculum
In Reception we explore lots of different topics across the year, we plan for our topics across the seven areas of learning and include lots of exciting opportunities for the children to develop their knowledge and skills.
We know the vital importance of developing early literacy skills. we follow the phonics scheme Read Write Inc where each child is taught at the level they need to make rapid progress. Children are read with by an adult three times a week and complete weekly writing activities with an adult. They are also giving plentiful opportunities to read and write across the provision in their play. We see children using their writing skills in the home corner, writing shop lists and making cards. We see children using their reading skills in the construction area as they read instructions on how to make something. This independent use of literacy skills is exactly what we want to see.
In Reception we use White Rose maths to deliver the maths curriculum. The maths work in Reception is always a very hands on and practical experience which keeps our children engaged and motivated. We ensure children master basic maths skills so that they have the knowledge they need when leaving the foundation stage.
