Year 1

Welcome back to school after the Christmas holidays!

Our new spring topic is 'What a wonderful world'. This term we will be learning the about the location of countries, continents and oceans of the world in relation to the position of the United Kingdom and our own locality.

The children will develop global awareness by looking in detail at the position of the seven continents and five oceans of the world, understanding that the world is spherical and creating their own journeys across the world. They will continue to build on their map skills developed last term using atlases, world maps and globes more widely, along with using aerial photographs to recognise human and physical features including landmarks.

Important things to remember

  • Please make sure that you child has their PE kit in school all week.

  • Sign your child’s reading log when they complete the reading book. Your child will bring a new reading book home every Friday.

  • Spellings will be tested on a Friday morning.

  • Homework tasks and reading books will be sent home on a Friday to be returned no later than Wednesday so that we can get the books changed and out again on Friday.

  • I am always available after school if you would like to discuss anything, or find out how your child is progressing.

Thank you for your support at home.
