Year 1

Welcome back everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday and that you are feeling excited and refreshed for our first half of the summer term.

This term we are learning about popular toys through the 20th century and the early 21st century. The children will think about their favourite toy from today before moving on to look at toys which were popular when their parents and grandparents were children. Throughout the unit, the children will develop a range of historical skills such as: asking and answering questions, identifying and interpreting different sources and recognising change and exploring how this influences them today. The children will complete a range of learning activities which include: drawing discussions, role play and games as well as writing tasks to encourage the children to fully engage in lessons. We will visit Beamish museum where the children will experience life in the infant classroom 100 years ago. They will identify similarities and differences between school life today and school life in the past.

Important things to remember

  • Please make sure that you child has their PE kit in school all week.

  • Sign your child’s reading log when they complete the reading book. Your child will bring a new reading book home every Friday

  • Homework tasks and reading books will be sent home on a Friday to be returned no later than Wednesday so that we can get the books changed and out again on Friday.

  • I am always available after school if you would like to discuss anything, or find out how your child is progressing.

Thank you for your support at home.
